How to connect to Networks like BSC, Polygon, Cronos,… (with MetaMask)
There are so many new networks popping up besides Ethereum and BitCoin (ETH, BTC) and many offer good opportunities. But how do you connect to:
- Binance Smart Chain (BSC) by binance.com
- Cronos (CRO) by crypto.com
- Polygon (MATIC)
- Fantom (FTM)
Do you need a different wallet for each of them? Good news: no!
MetaMask is by default using Ethereum, but can be configured for all these different chains!
Pre-requirement: Installation & setup of MetaMask
MetaMask can be downloaded as browser add-on for Chrome and Firefox, or as an app on iOS and Android if you’re a mobile user. For the purposes of this tutorial, we’ll use the Chrome or Android version, but the instructions will be more or less the same for every platform.
- First you need to go to the MetaMask Download page. From there, select the platform you’re using, and follow the steps to install it on your device.
- Next finish the setup with the step-by-step flow specified by the app:
Go ahead and click Create a Wallet.
Important: Write down the backup seed phrase somewhere secret (preferably on pieces of paper and absolutely not on an Internet-connected device — also do not take pictures with your mobile phone).
Why?
- Without this phrase, your funds can’t be recovered if your device is damaged or lost.
- With this seed phrase everyone who has it has access to your wallet and use them — so giving out these few words is like handing out that wallet.
As a final step you confirm that you’ve written them down on the next page.
And that’s it! You should now see your wallet, ready to send and receive funds.
For Ethereum you are all set and can use the wallet address to do transactions like get ETH sent to this new wallet.
